Motorists warned to watch for Caribou on Northern Peninsula

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is advising motorists to remain vigilant when travelling between the Roddickton Road intersection and the Town of Plum Point, between St. Anthony Airport and Eddies Cove and the roadway between St. Anthony Airport and the Town of Main Brook.
Over the winter a significant portion of the St. Anthony caribou herd has stayed in the area and areas adjacent to the St. Anthony Airport.
The herd will increase its daily movements as they begin their trek from wintering ranges to spring calving areas. These caribou will be required to cross roadways.
It is important to scan both sides of the highway, watch for caribou warning signs, if possible avoid driving at dusk and dawn, and reduce speeds when driving at night.
