Marine Atlantic operating costs rise
Marine Atlantic has released an annual review of activities over the period from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.
In that period of time, the Crown Corporation made $108.2 million via customer tariffs and other revenue while having expenses of $239.9 million. Since it is a Crown Corporation the federal government provides an annual subsidy.
In the report, Marine Atlantic said that wages and benefit costs were 15 percent higher compared to the fiscal year 2020/21 and $6.2 million higher than budget.
The company carried 231,299 passengers for the fiscal year 91,335 passenger vehicles and 90,223 commercial vehicles.
