Man arrested after crashing into boulder in Upper Island Cove

RCMP arrested a 73-year-old man on Thursday after he crashed his vehicle in a residential area of Upper Island Cove.

The car had crashed into a large boulder. The car had struck a fence and a concrete curb on the opposite side of the road continued across the road and struck a retaining wall prior to colliding with the boulder.

The driver was uninjured and was attempting to move the vehicle. He showed signs of alcohol impairment. He was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment, where he provided breath samples that were nearly three times the legal limit.

He was later released from custody and is scheduled to attend court at a later date. His licence was suspended and the car was seized and impounded.
