Italy wins European Championship

Italy won the European Championship on Sunday beating England by a score of 3 to 2. Italy won the final on penalties against England following a 1–1 draw after extra time.

The match took place at Wembley Stadium.

The last time England won the international trophy was in 1966.

There was no automatic qualifying berth, and all 55 UEFA national teams, including the 12 national teams whose countries were selected to stage matches, had to compete in the qualifiers for the 24 places at the finals tournament.

Originally the European Championship was supposed to take place last year but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
