The HMCS Harry DeWolf was officially commissioned in Halifax on Saturday.

The ship is part of the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship project as part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy. It is primarily designed for the patrol and support of Canada's Arctic regions.

It was named after Vice-Admiral Harry DeWolf, a former head of the Royal Canadian Navy. DeWolf was the first commander of HMCS Haida during the Second World War. He was born in Bedford.

The vessel was ordered in 2011 and laid down in 2016.
