Hearing into Jan 6 Capitol Attack provides prime-time hearing

C-SPAN

On Thursday evening The House select committee investigating the January 6, US Capitol attack held its first prime-time hearing.

The committee heard new testimony, provided never-before-seen footage, and outlined former President Donald Trump's role in what happened.

Trump was pleased that the riot had taken place and according to testimony agreed that rioters chanting to hang former Vice President Mike Pence had the right idea saying "maybe our supporters have the right idea."

Trump's former staff and family had turned against him including his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner. Staffers and family members told Trump that the election was not stolen but Trump continued to spread misinformation about it.

Far-right extremist groups the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers played a key role in the riot. Canada currently lists the Proud Boys as a terrorist entity.
