Carney announces date for Alberta by-election

The date for the by-election in Battle River—Crowfoot, in Alberta, has been announced.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that a by-election will be held on August 18, 2025.

Conservative Damien Kurek won the seat in the recent federal election but has stepped down to allow Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to run in the district. Poilievre lost his seat in Carleton.

The area has a long history of being among the most heavily conservative ridings in the country.
