Canada's population reached 40 million

The population of Canada has reached 40 million according to Statistics Canada.

Last year the number of Canadians rose by 1,050,110. This was the first time in our history that our population grew by over one million people in a single year.

It was also the highest annual population growth rate on record since 1957.

Immigration was cited as the primary reason for population growth.
