Authorities Uncover Plot to Kidnap Michigan Governor

Both federal and state officials have thwarted a plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Six men associated with a Michigan-based militia group were charged in an alleged plot to kidnap Whitmer and violently overthrow the state government. There were arrested on Wednesday.

The FBI became aware of the scheme in early 2020 through social media, and via an undercover agent who met with more than a dozen individuals at a meeting in Dublin, Ohio.

The group planned to kidnap her at her vacation home and place her on trial for treason.

The plot was in response to COVID-19 restrictions she imposed in the state.
