Alberta elects majority United Conservative Party government
Voters have returned a majority United Conservative Party government in Alberta.
Leader Danielle Smith and her party secured 49 seats in last night's election, just making it past the 44 seats required to form a majority.
In her victory speech, Smith promised to work for people of all political stripes and continued her attack on Ottawa and the federal governing Liberals.
The NDP gained 11 seats for a total of 38 seats, making them the largest official opposition in the province's history.
NDP Leader Rachel Notley plans to stay on as party leader.
