455 tickets issued during Road Safety Week

Last week was Road Safety Week across Canada.

Enforcement and awareness activities took place across the province by the RNC, RCMP, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Highway Traffic Enforcement.

Officers conducted speed enforcement, traffic safety checkpoints, licensing and equipment compliance inspections, sobriety checks, and other traffic safety initiatives.

Across the RNC jurisdictions, officers issued 455 tickets, mostly for speeding.

Some other offences resulting in tickets issued were mobile device usage, licensing and insurance infractions, defective equipment and insecure cargo.

Police seized a total of 18 vehicles five related to excessive speeds, six related to impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and seven vehicles for various offences related to licensing and insurance. The excessive speed and impaired operation offences resulted in a suspended driver’s license in each case.
