Minister Says NLTA News Release Contains False Information

Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, Brian Warr has responded to a news release issued by the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association that he says contains false information regarding class sizes and teacher allocations.

He said that government has no intention of increasing class sizes. An additional 350 teaching resources are being provided over a three year period and will be fully implemented in 2021.

The NLTA news release states, “In 2016 the government increased the class sizes of grade one to grade nine classes so it could introduce full day Kindergarten.” Warr says this information is incorrect. Class sizes were not increased or changed in any way in grades 1 to 3.
