RCMP conducts traffic stop with suspended driver, cruiser hits truck #nltraffic

On Monday afternoon an RCMP officer observed a known suspended driver operating a truck on Route 210 just south of Marystown.

The officer pulled in behind the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

The truck travelled over the centre line and into the oncoming lane of travel and then veered onto the gravel shoulder of the road.

The driver locked on the brakes which created a cloud of dust that impeded the officer’s vision and caused a minor collision between the patrol car and the rear end of the truck.

Neither the driver nor the officer was injured in the collision.

The driver did show signs of drug impairment. He was arrested, provided with a blood demand and was transported to the Burin Peninsula Health Centre where a blood sample was collected for further analysis.

The truck was seized and impounded and the investigation is continuing.
