The NHL has suspended all games due to the rapid spread of COVID-19.
The announcement came shortly after the NBA announced similar action. The NBA said that a Utah Jazz player had tested positive for the virus.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the suspension began on Thursday.
At this time the regular-season schedule is scheduled to conclude on April 4.
There is no word yet on how or if the Stanley Cup will be awarded.
