February has an extra day to enjoy this year, but why?
To keep the calendar aligned with the seasons there are 366 days this year. The day is added based on how long with takes Earth to orbit the sun.
In the Gregorian calendar, years that are divisible by 100, but not by 400, do not contain a leap day.
Thus, 1700, 1800, and 1900 did not contain a leap day; neither will 2100, 2200, and 2300.
