Russian Police Arrest Nearly 1400 People

Russian police arrested nearly 1,400 people on Saturday at an opposition protest in Moscow.


 

 
Sources say that there was a violent police crackdown.


 

 
The protest was in response to election authorities disqualifying independent candidates for the Moscow city council.


 

 
Several of those detained suffered broken limbs and head injuries.


 

 
Most of the detained have since been released, however, about 150 remain in custody.


 

 
The protest mainly consisted of young demonstrators and opposition activists.
