Rabies Detected in Disney World

Health officials in Florida have said that a feral cat tested positive for rabies.

Rabies is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain in humans and other mammals.

Early symptoms can include fever and tingling at the site of exposure. It is spread when an infected animal scratches or bites another animal or human.

Two Disney World employees were scratched by the cat but did not test positive for rabies.

If bitten or scratched by a suspected rabid animal clean the area with soap and water and then seek medical attention.

The only treatment for human exposure to rabies is rabies specific immune globulin and rabies immunization.
