Red Cross Says Most Drownings are Young Men

The Canadian Red Cross says that hundreds of Canadians die each year in water-related fatalities.

The majority of those victims in Newfoundland and Labrador are young men between the ages of 15 and 34.

Those in that age group account for 82% of drownings in the province.

57% of water-related fatalities occurred in summer months.

The Red Cross recommends that children be supervised, your weather a life-jacket, and only swim in an area where a lifeguard is present.
